1. Introduction
BAITA Engineering: Journal of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—in accordance with the principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and international best practices for scholarly journals.
All manuscripts submitted to BAITA Engineering are subject to a strict double-blind professional peer-review process conducted by experts in naval architecture and marine engineering. The journal adheres to the legal and ethical requirements of the study's country of origin.
2. Authors' Responsibilities
2.1. Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their submitted work is entirely original and has not been published previously, nor is it under consideration for publication elsewhere. All sources must be properly cited and acknowledged. The journal maintains a plagiarism policy whereby manuscripts with a significant overlap—defined as the use of identical or almost identical figures and identical or slightly modified text for one half or more of the paper—may be rejected. Authors found to have committed plagiarism may be prohibited from submitting further articles for a specified period.
2.2. Authorship and Consent
All individuals identified as authors must have made significant intellectual contributions to the research and must consent to be listed as authors. The submission must include the names, affiliations, and contact details of all authors. Ghost authorship and guest authorship are not permitted.
2.3. Data Integrity and Research Ethics
Authors are responsible for the accuracy and authenticity of the data presented. Fabrication, falsification, or misrepresentation of data is strictly prohibited. Where applicable, research must have received approval from an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the country in which the study was conducted.
2.4. Permission and Copyright
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included in the submission, including photographs, documents, datasets, and any third-party content.
2.5. Acknowledgment of Errors
Should authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, they are obliged to promptly notify the Editor-in-Chief and cooperate in issuing corrections or retractions.
2.6. Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial, personal, or professional relationships that could be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation.
3. Reviewers' Responsibilities
3.1. Confidentiality
Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents and must not share or discuss the content with any third party without prior authorization from the editor.
3.2. Objectivity and Fairness
Reviews must be conducted objectively, based solely on the intellectual content and scientific merit of the manuscript. Reviewers shall evaluate submissions **without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors**.
3.3. Disclosure of Conflicts
Reviewers must recuse themselves from reviewing any manuscript for which they have a conflict of interest.
3.4. Alerting the Editor
Reviewers should bring to the editor's attention any suspected ethical issues, including plagiarism, duplicate submission, or data fabrication.
4. Editors' Responsibilities
4.1. Editorial Independence and Fairness
Editors have complete responsibility and authority to accept or reject articles based on their academic merit and relevance to the journal's scope, without regard to the authors' personal characteristics or institutional affiliation.
4.2. Confidentiality
Editors must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and the publisher.
4.3. Handling Misconduct
Editors are responsible for investigating and responding to allegations of research misconduct, plagiarism, or other ethical violations. Appropriate actions, including desk rejection, retraction, or author sanctions, may be taken.
4.4. Transparency
Editors shall ensure that the peer-review process is conducted fairly and transparently, and that all decisions are clearly communicated to authors.
5. Publication Ethics Oversight
5.1. Duplicate and Redundant Publication
Submitting the same research to more than one journal concurrently is unethical and will result in immediate rejection. Manuscripts describing essentially the same research must not be published in more than one journal or primary publication.
5.2. Correction and Retraction Policy
The journal is committed to maintaining the integrity of the academic record. When errors are identified, the journal will publish corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern as appropriate, following COPE guidelines.
5.3. Appeals and Complaints
Authors have the right to appeal editorial decisions. All appeals will be considered fairly by the editorial board in accordance with established procedures.
6. Privacy Statement
The names and email addresses entered on this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
7. Article Publishing Charge (APC)
BAITA Engineering is a free open-access journal. There are no Article Publishing Charges (APCs) for authors.
